CHILE VOLCANOES SKI MOUNTAINEERING OVERVIEW

This trip is a unique Chile ski mountaineering adventure exploring and skiing the exquisite volcanoes of Chile's Northern Patagonia. Located in Chile's beautiful lake district, we travel on horses from the lush green forests to backcountry huts, and then ascend on skis to the high alpine slopes for exceptional off-season volcano skiing. We have been running this Chile ski trip for many years now and we consider it one of the best "off-season" ski adventures to be had anywhere. We have all the local logistics dialed so you can relax and enjoy the fantastic skiing and scenery. Our guides are all American Mountain Guides Assoc. (AMGA) trained or certified ski mountaineering guides so you know your in good hands

Our Chile ski objectives are the volcanoes Osorno, Puyehue, Villarica & Casablanca.  These non-technical ski summits are located at manageable altitudes & elevations so the ski experience is mellow and enjoyable…and no days are lost to acclimating. The ski tours vary from epic full days to mellow 2-3 hour adventures. With so many tour options available, it is easy to adapt to the conditions and weather.

We stay in very comfortable haciendas and refugios dining on local specialties including seafood and steaks. From the refugios we ski tour with skins to ski the spectacular open bowls of the nearby volcanoes, and can finish our days of ski touring with visits to local hot springs. What more can you ask for!

Travel is relatively easy with an overnight flight to Santiago, Chile, followed by a short hop to Osorno in the heart of Patagonia's Lake District. Come join us on this late summer Chile skiing adventure!

CHILE VOLCANOES SKI MOUNTAINEERING ITINERARY

Day 0 (Night before the trip begins):
Travel from the United States via Santiago, Chile.

Day 1
Arrive in Osorno, Chile. Travel to local hacienda, relax in hot springs.

Day 2
Climb and ski the Volcano Casablanca. Then we visit some local hot springs and night at a local hacienda

Day 3
Volcan Puyehue
Start the morning by organizing our ski gear and loading it onto the pack horses. It is an approximately 4 hour horseback ride to get up to the mountain hut at 1,400 meters. Here your guide will set up what will be our rustic, yet cozy, home for the next few days. Night in the mountain hut.

Day 4
Early in the morning, we start ski touring to the summit of Volcan Puyehue. From the top the view of the Patagonian Andes is spectacular! You can see other volcanoes in Argentina and Chile along the same fault line as Puyehue: Lanin, Osorno, Puntiagudo, and Tronador. According to conditions, we can ski from the summit into the crater of the volcano, skin/boot pack out of the crater, choose another line, and ski down again! The lines we ski, and the number of runs we ski, is dependent on skiers' skill level and endurance. This is a long day on the volcano and we ski back to the hut. Spend the night in the mountain hut.

Day 5
Ski and hike down to the gaucho's ranch. Options are to relax that afternoon or drive to
Pucon. The drive to Pucon is 5 hours. Night in a cozy hosteria.

the nice town of Pucon. Night in hotel in Pucon.
