What better adventure could there be for your family than an overnight wilderness hiking trip? Away for the screens and cell service, a backountry wilderness adventure is a great way for your family to create lasting memories. We specialize in crafting guided custom backpacking and trekking adventures throughout California and the Sierra Nevada for families with kids. We will take care off all the logistics and provide delicious meals and any group camping equipment needed.

We know multiple special locations throughout the Sierra Nevada mountains that are prefect for families with kids. Shorter trips with great swimming holes, fishing, beautiful scenery and great activities for the kids. We have two types of family trips:

  • Regular backpacking trips in which everyone carries in their own supplies and gear. These are more self sufficient and perfect for families with older kids who wish to learn the lifelong sport of wilderness backpacking

  • We can also arrange porters or pack animal spot trips to haul all your gear into a basecamp for the ultimate comfort wilderness experience. Let the animals carry in all your gear and extra camp comforts such as camp chairs, solar showers, great food and more. Once we have a base camp set up, we can then guide you on day hikes from camp or other activities . Perfect for families with younger kids.

Food, Equipment & Lodging

We provide breakfast lunch, dinner and snacks prepared by your guide and backcountry chef from the time we meet till we part ways. We like to call our food "backcountry gourmet" which includes vegetables as well as freshly baked goods.

To make your trip easier for you we provide most of the gear you will need at no extra cost. We provide high quality backpacks, sleeping bags and pad, trekking poles, headlamp and eating utensils if needed. We also provide tents, all group cooking gear, first aid kit and water purification for the group. Our guides carry emergency two-way satellite communications devices at all times.
