Mammoth to June Lake Ski Tour Overview

The Mammoth to June Lakes ski tour along the scenic San Joaquin Ridge is a perfect one-night ski tour in the Mammoth Lakes area. If you only have two days for an overnight ski tour, this is the one we recommend. Skiing from Mammoth to June Lake is also a great first overnight ski tour for those with previous backcountry ski experience.

We spend two full days skiing from the Main Lodge at Mammoth Mountain to the June Lake Loop. Leaving Mammoth Mountain we ski along the snowed over highway up to Minaret Summit where we are rewarded with spectacular views of the Minarets and the Ritter Range. Then it’s along the ridge taking in the views to where we make our camp for the night on the Eastern edge of the ridge. After dropping packs and setting up camp there are opportunities for some great east facing ski shots in the afternoon. The next morning we continue our ridge traverse past the two teets and to the summit of San Joaquin Mountain (11,600 feet). From there it’s a great 4000 foot descent into the June Lake Loop to finish the tour.

We provide a shuttle from the end of the tour in June Lake back to your vehicle at Mammoth Mountain.

 

 
 
 

SKILL & EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Previous backcountry skiing experience required using skins on steep terrain. Must be comfortable skiing black diamond runs up to 35 degrees at a resort in any conditions and double black diamonds in good conditions with a pack. Must be in excellent physical condition.
